Friends of Chamber Music and Heartland Young Artist Project Announce 2023 Scholarship Recipients

Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City (www.ChamberMusic.org) and Heartland Chamber Music (www.HeartlandChamberMusic.org) are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2023 Friends of Chamber Music and Heartland Young Artist Project Scholarship Program. These scholarships are awarded to exceptionally talented young musicians who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and promise in the field of chamber music.

The Friends of Chamber Music and Heartland Chamber Music have a longstanding commitment to nurturing and supporting emerging talents in the world of chamber music. We received many applications from young musicians across Kansas City, showcasing an inspiring level of artistry and passion.

"The scholarship will provide students with access to top-quality coaching and performance opportunities," said Hyeyeon Park, Artistic Co-Director of Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City. "We are thrilled to work with Heartland Chamber Music to support young musicians in our community."

After a rigorous selection process, the following recipients were chosen for their exceptional musical talents:

1. Andrew Anderson – cello – Topeka High School, Topeka, KS

2. Eddison Chen – piano - Oxford Middle School, Overland Park, KS

3. Caroline Epp – violin – University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS

4. Maho Gibbs – violin – Blue Valley Northwest High School, Overland Park, KS

5. Evelyn Holmes – violin – Shawnee Mission East High School, Prairie Village, KS

6. John Lee – cello – Blue Valley Southwest High School, Overland Park, KS

7. Matthew Lee – viola – Olathe Northwest High School, Overland Park, KS

8. Carter Medina – cello – Blue Springs South High School, Blue Springs, MO

9. Sophia Perez-Monroe – violin – University of Missouri Conservatory, Kansas City, MO

10. Yelisey Romanov – piano – Pembroke Hill School, Kansas City, MO

11. Will Savage – cello – Lakewood Middle School, Overland Park, KS

12. Will Suh – violin – Blue Valley North High School, Overland Park, KS

13. Yin-Shiuan Ting – violin – Park University, Parkville, MO

14. Emma Welsh – viola – University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS

15. Solomon Wu – cello – Blue Valley Northwest High School, Overland Park, KS

Each of these gifted musicians has exhibited a profound commitment to chamber music and a dedication to honing their craft. The scholarship will provide 14 coaching sessions by renowned teaching atrtists from Greater Kansas City, masterclasses, a performance on Kansas Public Radio and community concerts that will enhance their skills and enrich their musical journey. In addition, each quartet will design a performance to be presented in the community in the spring.

"We are honored to work with Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City to provide this unique opportunity for young musicians," said Jackie Lee, Artistic Director of Heartland Chamber Music. "This program will help the students to develop their musical abilities and deepen their love of chamber music."

The Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City and Heartland Young Artist Project would like to extend our thanks to the many talented young musicians who applied for the scholarship program, as well as their dedicated teachers and mentors who have nurtured their musical talents.

Coaching sessions for the first semester begin on September 30th. The fall performance will be held on November 18th and open to the public. Time and location to be announced in October.
