Piffaro & King's Noyse
Saturday, March 24 | 8:00 PM | Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral
Violin ensembles were the new upstarts in 16th-century Northern Italy, and many of the pieces they performed were considered avant-garde. King’s Noyse, America’s premier Renaissance violin ensemble, brings to Kansas City some of the innovative works that ushered in the Baroque style of the 17th century. Piffaro, the world’s foremost Renaissance wind ensemble, joins forces with the venerable King’s Noyse in a gorgeous program reconstructed from the courts of Ferrara’s nobles – a merging that eventually led to the modern orchestra. Ellen Hargis’s soprano voice will soar with the colorful text painting that foreshadows the new Baroque style. Composers Cipriano de Rore, Carlo Gesualdo, Luzzasco Luzzaschi and their forward-thinking compatriots will be featured.
